1. HAVING A BURGLAR SYSTEM INSTALLED

Based on a report by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, about 60% of convicted burglars stated the presence of a security system influenced their decision to target another home.  Call ABC today at 301-249-9200 to get a free estimate for a system in your home or business!  We provide yard signs and window stickers to alert potential intruders to your security system.

2. MOTION ACTIVATED LIGHTS

Leaving your lights on 24/7 isn't exactly practical for your electric bill.  However, many homes are burglarized during night time due to the fact that it's easier for criminals to sneak up in the darkness. Having lights turn on is a great determent.  With that said....

3. MOST BURGLARIES OCCUR BETWEEN 10 A.M. & 3 P.M.

Contrary to popular belief, the majority of home burglaries take place during daylight hours. Most people are at work or school--burglars know this and expect to go more unnoticed.  To deter them during the day, having indoor and outdoor motion-activated security cameras is crucial. You can also receive alerts if the camera detects motion so you can evaluate if it is necessary to take action.

4. SECURING YOUR DOORS

Most burglaries occur through a door. In fact, some burglars simply walk in through the front door. A good dead bolt lock is essential, for starters.  The door frame, door and lock need to be able to withstand bending or being pried or kicked open.

5. SMOKE ALARMS / FIRE PROTECTION

One of the leading causes of fires is from overloading your electrical circuits.  You should always use a fire detection and/or smoke detection system in your home.  A monitored  fire detection system can protect your property at all times, whether or not you are home. Call ABC today at 301-249-9200 so that we can help you protect your family, home and/or business.

Thanks for the tip that I should have a burglar alarm system installed in my house. I think I'll hire a service to install one soon along with motion activated lights. Since most burglaries occur between 10 A.M and 3 P.M., I should have one installed because I'm still at work during those times.

You're right about saying that I have to install a burglar security system to protect my business. I suppose I should add motion security lights to make sure that it's effective. I'll make sure to secure my doors as well so that I can secure my shop.

I like that you said that it is important to know the features of your security system. After moving to our current area, my wife is asking about the home security cameras for us to be safe from dangers. I wanted to thank you for your explanation about the advantage of having a security system and I'll be sure to consult a trusted home security service.

It got me when you said that doors should have locks to prevent burglars. I would imagine that any business owner would want to avoid incidents that can affect their operations. I think they should look for commercial camera systems that can help them monitor their property every day to prevent theft.

This is a very informative article! You make a really good point about securing doors, having that first line of defense can really make all the difference in your protection. What type of security door or security screen would you recommend to do the job best?

I like that you talked about motion-activated lights which would not affect your electric bill, since you don't have to leave your lights on 24/7. I can imagine how this would be a great option for small businesses with a limited budget if they need commercial security systems to protect them while not affecting their budget. Once they have developed more, they can probably have more chances of getting more advanced systems to protect them from criminals.

It got me when you talked about fire alarm system installations that would be able to protect the house even if we are not around. I would love that to be installed in our home since my husband and I usually have a hectic schedule. So most of the time we can only go home at night.
